A thesis and a book are different objects with different readers. The thesis proves to a committee that you are competent. The book persuades a stranger that your argument matters. Almost every revision follows from that one difference.
Cut the defensive apparatus
The long literature review, the methodological justification, the exhaustive footnotes proving you read everything — these exist to satisfy examiners. Readers experience them as throat-clearing. Most theses lose fifteen to twenty per cent of their length here and improve.
Rewrite the introduction completely
Thesis introductions announce structure. Book introductions make a promise. Yours should tell the reader what they will be able to think, do or argue by the end that they cannot now.
Find the chapter that is really the book
In a surprising number of theses, one chapter contains the actual contribution and the rest is scaffolding. If that is true of yours, the book may be that chapter expanded rather than the whole thesis compressed.
