Akedemia Publications

For authors

Fourteen days to a real answer about your manuscript.

No agent required, no submission fee, no silence. Send a proposal and three chapters and a subject editor will read them and write back — whichever way the answer goes.

01

Editing that improves the argument

Developmental editing, then copy-editing and proofreading against your discipline’s style guide.

02

ISBN, DOI and copyright

Registered in your name. We handle deposit libraries, CIP data and rights documentation.

03

Distribution in 120+ countries

Print-on-demand in six regions, ebook on every major platform, library supply through five aggregators.

04

Promotion that reaches scholars

Catalogue placement, conference presence, review copies to journals and your own launch event.

The process

Six stages from submission to shelf

These are the timings we hold ourselves to. If a stage slips, your editor tells you before the deadline, not after it.

01
Week 1–2

Submit and be read

You send a proposal, a chapter list and three sample chapters through the contact form. A commissioning editor in your discipline reads them and replies within fourteen days with a decision or a request to see more.

02
Week 3–8

Peer review

Two or three subject referees assess the manuscript. You receive their reports in full, plus a revision plan agreed with your editor. Nothing is hidden from you and nothing is decided without you.

03
Week 9

Contract and schedule

You license us to publish; you keep your copyright. The contract names your royalty rate, territories, formats and the production dates we are both committing to.

04
Week 10–18

Production

Copy-editing, typesetting, cover design, index and proofs. You sign off on the cover and the final proof. ISBN, DOI and CIP registration happen in parallel.

05
Week 19–22

Launch

Catalogue listing, review copies to journals and press, retail and library feeds, and a launch event we host and promote for you.

06
Ongoing

Life after launch

Quarterly itemised royalty statements, rights pitching at three book fairs a year, and the title kept in print and in catalogue as long as it has readers.

An honest comparison

Us, a conventional academic press, and a self-publishing platform

There are good reasons to choose any of the three. Here is where each one actually helps.

Publishing plans

Three routes, all with peer review

Accepted academic monographs are published on our own investment at no cost to the author. The paid plans exist for authors who want a faster schedule or a wider promotional push than a standard contract carries.

Commissioned
No cost to the author

For manuscripts we accept onto the research list.

Institutional
On quotation

For departments, research centres and conference organisers.

We do not charge submission or reading fees on any route. If a manuscript is not ready, we say so rather than selling you a plan.

Before you send

What a strong submission contains

You do not need a finished manuscript. You need enough for an editor to judge the argument, the audience and whether you can sustain both for 300 pages.

Frequently asked, briefly

Yes — 41% of the authors we published last year had not published a book before. Referees assess the manuscript, not the CV.

Yes, but it needs revising first. A thesis argues to examiners; a book argues to readers. Your editor will tell you what has to change before review.

You still receive the full reports. Many authors revise and resubmit successfully; your editor will say plainly whether that is worth your time.

Send it. We will read it.
